Inclusive Design

I had a great opportunity in my career to work at Surrey Place Centre to understand and test users with mental challenges. Surrey Place Centre is a government funded organization which provides specialized clinical services for children/ adults with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and visual impairment. As a project manager, I facilitated getting the team up and running on a SharePoint platform. ​ During my sessions to organize information architecture, I conducted a lengthy requirements gathering session and worked with many doctors. As a research tool, card sorting exercises and questionnaires were used to gauge the hierarchy of information to be displayed on their site . My target audience included working with clients with developmental challenges. Doctors and clinicians were able to help me adapt my user-testing questionnaire to use “plain communication” and encouraged me to add images of faces to illustrate ranking order.
